I would honestly say that 'mein-ga' is the anglicized version of a Japanese word, which means it isn't necessarily incorrect.

I think part of it comes from growing up in Hawaii where it's pretty much mainstream and kids are raised on just as much Miyazaki as they are Disney... and then I moved to Florida for college and that was actually my first time encountering the pronunciation and I was just like DDDDDDDD:

I've sort of gotten used to it? I mean, I'll still correct people at least once, but I won't harp on them if they keep using it.

I had a friend once who pronounced ramen as REI-men. That I was never able to let go.

I do see where you're coming from. I admit things like 'rei-men' or 'saki' (for sake) get to me, but I kind of see it as the process where the word pretty much has become the English version of the Japanese word, instead of being the Japanese word, and in English conversation saying it with the anglicized pronunciation is essentially ok. That's my stand on it anyways.
Borrowed English words in Japanese are usually pronounced just as off from the original as Japanese words are in English, so it's a fair's fair situation, at least.
