Thank God I have not seen that one, but your point is a very valid point which some insecure authors really need to understand: sometimes a huge number of kudos is an indicator of quality or of popularity (of the author or of the fandom or pairing), sometimes it isn't.

I have seen fics with hundred of kudos that were trash and conversely, some excellent stories with less than 20 kudos... AO3 kudos are usually indicative of how good your fic is, but not always.

Illogical, I know, but true nevertheless.
