That sucks, OP.

...Wow, timezones get weird in places.

exactly my reaction.

(China? What the fuck are you doing?)

that was so weird and annoying while I was there. It's too much land for one timezone!

Is there a part of it that has sunrises at like 3AM or something?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I feel this, too, OP. My biggest fandom and most of my friends are UK based, and I'm in the US, so it sucks that I'm asleep for half their day.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, thiiiisss.

Some amazing people I know live in the UK, and sometimes they post interesting things I only see when I go out of work, but by the time I'm home, they've already gone to sleep. :(

I hear you, OP! FS posts some time late at night in my timezone, and I usually read the posts in the morning/before afternoon the next day. My early reply today is a massive anomaly (and kind of ironic, really :~D). I always feel like I'm really late to the party...

I hear you, OP!

Virtually everyone in my fandom is several hours ahead of me. By the time I'm ready to spend some serious time online, everyone else has posted, commented, commented to everyone else's comments, and gone to bed. Sure, I can still post a comment or two, but the only person likely to see them (much less respond) is the OP.

(Maybe the pace of conversation has sped up, too? I remember a time when comment-based discussions could easily span 2 or 3 days. Now 1 day seems to be the limit.)

3 hours, max, for FS now. Tho weekends are different owing to people not having work/school.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

That's true - but I was talking fandom participation in general. Being (mostly) late for FS doesn't really bother me.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I would say at least four or five hours.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Preach

I'm fine now but usually fs doesn't start untill 2 am for me. Appart from that I tend to stick to UK fandoms for that exact reason

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean, OP. FS always updates too late for me and I only get to read the secret as they're posted on the weekends. I always miss the greatest monster threads. :(

same. i actually feel a bit jetlagged when i stay on f!s too long, haha.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! I'm always late to the party here.

I have the feeling this secret will get a lot more comments starting around seven or so hours from now . . .

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I know just what you mean. Time zone and shift work mean 90% of the time I chime in with the last comment on a secret. That gets a little lonely. Alternatively, my superpower is conversation-killer.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
FS got posted around 5 to 6 AM here... I only got the chance to look at it after I got to college... 3 hours later :y

Agreed OP - pretty much the entire reason I'm only on FS on weekends and that is not guaranteed. :X

The only problem with F!S is that by the time I usually get up (which mind you, is after midday), most of the rush of discussion here is already done. That may mean I have nice long discussion threads to read, but my own comments end up as tags on the end of them as a result.

Still, F!S is journal-based, so those long threads of discussion are sitting here, waiting to be read. Other websites that update immediately (like Twitter, and I presume Tumblr) can rush by and you miss stuff that happened while you were asleep, if you have a lot of people you follow, and most of them are in other widely differing timezones.
