I do find different artistic interpretations fascinating, too. Sometimes I go through the Fanart tag on AO3 or on tumblr and look at all the fanart without knowing a thing about the fandoms.

It may be even cooler this way. When you have so little knowledge about the characterization, you can see clearly how the few aspects you DO know change from one version of the character to another.

(on a somewhat related note, this is one of the reasons I love digging through the Holmes franchise fanart. Not only do the fanartists change the characters, but the characters themselves change, too. It's kind of a continuous multidimensional process).
