Ugh, no. They were saying when the gameplay is bad, just watching will let you experience the story better because you're not distracted by your feelings of annoyance. So gameplay isn't always the most important component because in some cases, it is the worst part of a game. The discussion is only weird because you're reading something completely different into it.

Though I do honestly think sometimes the game play in Uncharted got in the way of the story. Most of it was fine, but some of the fight scenes were just too fucking long and drawn out with so many bad guys it just started to crack my willing suspension of disbelief.
