But the hiking lets you build the anticipation and gives the sense of accomplishment when you actually get there.

What about people who are unfit but still want to see the canyon in person? Hiking for me would destroy my enjoyment because I'd be exhausted, sweaty, in a bad mood, and not receptive to enjoy the sights. The helicopter would get me there, let me see the canyon, and be a fun experience in it's own right as well (I've never been in a chopper before).

Your experience of hiking does not equal everyone else's.
