This question always frustrates me, not because it's difficult to answer, but because, to me, it isn't. God doesn't let bad things happen, we all have the gift of free will and people choose to do bad things. I don't hold any theoretical God responsible for what sapient people do, because to me that's like asking God to take away free will. I mean, what else could God be expected to do about the issue aside from stepping in and taking control of everything so nobody can choose to be a dick anymore? Is that something people actually want? It's not like people have to be this stupid and cruel, we're capable of so much better. If God doesn't step in, I assume it's because they want us to do better by our own ability, that it's never been beyond our grasp. By asking why God "lets bad things happen", it's assuming that people aren't capable of not being dicks, and therefore it's God fault when we're dicks. And that's bullshit, IMO.

Somebody can always pull bad out of every good thing if they feel like it; look at the angels in Supernatural, they live in heaven, they don't have to shit on Earth every chance they get, but they do. I want to know why people do that kind of unnecessary shit, not any deity.

Explain antisocial personality disorder to me. Explain schizophrenia. Explain cancer. Explain the windpipe crossing the esophagus!
