It just ... never seemed like those things were sent malevolently, is all. Not to me. More that they were simply consequences of the way the world worked, not because the world was set up to hurt us, but because the world was set up to run, self-contained and independent, and the forces needed to make that happen were too big to be safe for something as small as we are.

I mean, I'm biased. I value my free will above all things, and writing that concept large enough to encompass a universe personally satisfies me, regardless of the presence of a deity.


The whole thing is beautiful, but this is particular answers everything that needs answering for me, and I don't think you have to be atheistic at all to see the universe this way. Thank you for writing it so well.
