Three or four. My mom read aloud to me and taught me how to read along, and I know The Ball Bounced was one we read a lot. I remember my mom taking me to preschool to enroll me, and I was sitting in the lobby reading a book about butterflies. And I remember being at that same preschool and telling my friend I knew how to read, and then picking up The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses... and then deciding that it would be more fun to make up my own story based on the pictures. Then I had to convince her that I hadn't been lying.
