I read aloud to my mother from a grown-up book when I was 3. The words were "In the Catacombs" and it was her library book so I hadn't had any exposure to it prior to opening it then. That event spurred her to have her children's IQ tested and to pressure us to become some sort of wunderkind to make her look good.

Love to read still, but I'm over the whole "show how gifted you are" crap. It screwed me up for years.
