Stereotypically?

Yes, absolutely.

Is this a UK thing or something? Cause I wouldn't consider any of those names especially trashy.

e: I mean, I don't think any of those names would be considered stereotypically trashy, just to be clear

Maybe. I suppose we are particularly attuned to classism.

But I've specifically heard jokes about Siobhan and Cindy. The former I guess ties onto a whole complicated history with Ireland, and the latter is traditionally a strippers or mistresses name.

Mercedes regardless of the history as a genuine name is now tied to naming your kid after a nouveau riche car brand.

Mercedes is a hugely popular name in Spanish-speaking countries, it probably only has to do with the car in non-Spanish-speaking countries (and even then...)

'Cindy' immediately makes me think of Cindy Brady and/or a stereotypical 'cute' little girl with blond hair and a doll. Nothing trashy at all. How odd.

Cindy-Lou Who, for me. Same general idea, though.

It must be. I haven't associated any of them with "trashiness". In fact the people I've met/heard of with those names are the opposite of stereotypically trashy.

Please explain to me how any of them are stereotypically trashy. Siobhan is a normal name, Mercedes is a normal name and Cindy is just short for Cynthia, also a completely normal name.

Where is Siobhan a common name? I don't doubt it is, but I think I might have seen it once, and it was probably somewhere on the internet.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Irish here, and I one of my friends growing up was called Siobhan.

Other classmates included: Fionnuala, Grainne, Una, Brigid, Aileen, Ciara, Clodagh, Dierdre, Dervla, Emer, Noreen, Orla and Dierdre.

Irish girls' names are great.

I love the name Clodagh, deeply and fiercely, but my husband does not like it so we named our kids Emma and Fiona instead. :)
