I have no idea if this movie will be true to the original story or not (from the sounds of it, no) but I probably will see it because frankly, it looks damn cool. It's going to be an extremely pretty movie; I love Maleficent's design (the wings!!!).

Yes, I'm shallow. It looks entertaining, so if I can I'll see it. Doesn't mean I think that this is 'Maleficent's true story' or whatever, and as everyone has said there are already many, many different versions out there, so I don't really see what the big deal is.

Plus, IA that villains that don't have much going for them beyond 'wants power', 'enjoys tormenting people' are kind of boring. I would like to see her have a reason for doing the things she does, but for her to still not be excused of her actions because of them. (Don't know if that will happen, but I would like it. We'll see.)

I'm with you on this. I don't care about comparisons, because frankly I saw the original when I was in diapers or something and it doesn't mean anything to me.

I think a lot of the kids who are going to see this movie don't care about the original either. This will be the new Sleeping Beauty for them, and I hope it's good for their sake. The visuals looked pretty awesome from the trailer, and Jolie is just gorgeous in that makeup.

I hope the plot sticks together and it's a blockbuster.

I enjoyed the original but like you, I was very young when I saw it. It is not a movie I've seen over and over again, and I did not obsess over the other versions of the story. It's been done many times before, it will be done again and again in the future. Doesn't matter to me.

Yea, exactly. I know it annoys some people that younger kids or teens might know this new Sleeping Beauty instead of the older versions, but it happens. If they're interested they can always research it, watch the older film, read up on the fables, etc. Frankly I don't need be watching a 'true masterpiece' to have fun, if the plot is okay and the visuals are stunning I'm probably going to dig it. Jolie looks fantastic, that alone is enough reason to make me want to watch.

Me too.
