Most frequently, a boring, tedious job performed by boring, tedious people. Less frequently, a job full of liars and scammers.

Got it in one. (Or at least that's what I'm studying for--I'm just an assistant right now.)

I'm also an accountant (in the UK, I believe we do a slightly different job than in the US).

People believe so many strange things about us. The first being, that we're half-cyborg money grubbers. Most of my day is dealing with people. Only the rest is the figures. Okay, I do like maths, but I'm just an auditor. I'm only trying to make sure companies are trustworthy.

So much hate. You'd think I murdered puppies instead of ensuring that companies fulfil their legal duties as told to by the government.

The only people I meet who don't hate accountants are taxi drivers. They love us. A small island of friendliness in a world of misconceptions.

Anyway, can I join in the accountant trifistbump?

*bump bump yeah*

Pretty much anyone who needs an accountant for their own small business is going to love good ones! The mother of my roommate when I was studying in the UK told me that if I ever needed it, she would introduce me to her accountant (she was a small business owner).

I never had an interest in going self-employed, but I assure you that tons and tons of people adore you guys' work!

*throws accountant party confetti*

I'm reminded of the chartered accountancy sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azkFz1ZbXyU
