I think the problem is that this seems to have stopped being a helpful way for someone to identify who they are and realize they're not alone. It feels like these labels have just become the new "cool" thing and another reason someone can say they're ~oppressed~ by their mean parents and their mean teachers and the mean clothing stores that don't cater to wolf hybrid pansexuals or whatever. But then, I've never met a person in real life who does any of this, so it doesn't bother me much.

Labels are what we use when we need something a bit more elegant than pointing and grunting (or worse, marking it with our urine).

I'm having some issues disassociating this whole discussion from something that actually happened to me shortly after I came out.

"Hey Jim, you want to go see a movie?"
"Why do you have to be so gay about it?"
"Huh?"

That's only a slight exaggeration. Needless to say, he didn't stay a friend long after that.
