Some people who didn't know much about students development asked why so many of those kids had C's and D's by the end of that one semester. Meanwhile, actual teachers and tutors were amazed that I stuck it out through the semester (despite the students' best attempts to scare me away) and kept almost all of them from failing, and even got a few into the C and B territory, grade-wise. While it was meant to be a study hour just to get them to do their homework and stuff, most of what I did was helping them with study habits - because seriously, I was only there for one semester, I could give them short-term help or long-term help but not both.
