I agree with you in that I don't like the genre, and being in a long-term committed relationship has not made me dislike it any less.

As for whether it's "silly fantasy" or it has a harmful effect, I think that this depends on the person. Some people can watch these types of movies and enjoy them without taking them at all seriously; others actively model their expectations on them. When it comes to the latter group, yeah, it's definitely unhealthy.

I've had one of my friends admit to me that she has a hard time with relationships because she keeps expecting them to be like movies...she's 25...

I think that modeling isn't always active. At least, it can be at least somewhat subconscious. But I do agree it's possible to find them silly and amusing without actually buying into the tropes. I couldn't do it though.
