Yeah, it was always interesting watching other young women try to play up to him, because he was in a committed relationship, and he believed in it. We'd met in the Society for Creative Anachronisms, and some of the women liked to dress in, ah, belly dance attire and would hit on him (or any other attractive guy, but, you know, movie star!). I'd wander up, grab him by the elbow, and haul him off, saying his Knight or his Master needed him if he looked like he was getting in over his head. His Knight gave him to me at some point, so I can say I own an 80's teen star?

He did have some great stories about other actors/actresses, though. He said Robert Downey, Jr., was the nicest guy he ever worked with, so there you go.

That's pretty awesome that you kind of own an 80s teen star. I always wonder how child/teen stars adjust back into society and I guess I'm kind of embarrassed for him that he still has to deal with girls throwing themselves at him.

When a friend and I met an actor in one of our favorite TV shows, he was there to promote his new film. After we chatted with him about the film and the weather (how mundane) we politely said thanks, got pictures and left. Meanwhile, we realized we didn't mention we were fans of his from before, just how much we loved the film we just saw. We didn't want to be "those girls."

It's fun to say, too. "I own an 80s teen star!"

He and I were pals in the 90's, actually. I tracked him down via the internet, but have no real way to get in contact with him to play the 'do you remember?' game. He has integrated into society pretty well, as far as I can see. I was pleased to see him on an "I Love the 80's" show, as he is now. Or then, since we were watching those programs in the late 90's, I think.

I was too tongue-tied when I met John Schneider, but I did manage to stammer out how much I'd adored his series.

I always love fun stories like this though. And yes, I do remember "I Love the 80s" and LOVED those shows. Watched all of them.

Meeting Neil Gaiman, we all gushed over his books and how much we loved him. But with the actor I met we were just shocked at how quiet and reserved he was, especially in comparison to the character he plays. Honestly, if he didn't look so busy trying to promote his film, we just wanted to take him out for a drink to chat with him some more. Not about fame and acting but just to hang out because he seemed like such a great guy.

I did, too.

I didn't get a chance to meet Neil Gaiman, though he did sign my very old copy of Good Omens. He was a guest at the comic book store my ex-husband worked at. I have a few signed books because of that job!

I love having signed books. That's pretty cool, I'm slowly building a collection of signed books (I have Good Omens signed too haha)

Me, too, for the signed books. I've won some from Goodreads, which always makes me grin.

How odd. I also met a young celebrity in the SCA. He was the star of a big hit movie as a kid, lived in our city, and came out to a fighter practice because he was interested in rapier fighting. He played casually for about a year or so and then decided to do some more acting so we lost touch with him. I google him every now and then to see how he's doing.

Probably not the same. This was back in the 90s and it was Henry Thomas, who played the kid in E.T. I think he got interested in fencing and rapier fighting after he did "Valmont" because it was the early 90s when he was around. He was very nice and laid back, not full of himself at all, and most people played it pretty cool around him. I don't remember women hurling themselves at him or anything though I'm sure he got a share of attention. The only one we really laughed about was a certain very good-looking guy who apparently thought he wanted to be an actor/get into Hollywood & you could barely pry him off of poor Henry (for the life of me, I can't recall his SCA name atm) who, despite this, was always incredibly kind and gracious.

Not the same, no. Cedric (his SCA name) had his own armor when I met him, and was very much a stick jock. But he was also incredibly gracious (and oh so naive, some times).

Awww, poor Henry.
