You are missing the knowledge that not everyone likes the same thing.

Wow. That explains a lot! :D

But I guess that's it in a nutshell...

I listened to 20 episodes. My impression a nutshell: "totally hi-laaaarious random things happen constantly with no relation to plot while nobody is alarmed, repeat ad nauseam"

Honestly I'm glad there's a canon gay character in it but I suspect it's the only reason the podcast gained success at all since slash fangirls eat that shit up by the thousands.

Well, there has been a hell of a lot more through-plots lately, even though there is still a healthy bit of self-contained randomness, too.

The plot really properly kicks in around episode 30-ish, honestly, although there's definitely build-up episodes (like 19a and 19b, 25, and 28). I suspect there's a reason it surged in popularity around episode 25 - that's when there started being more of an ongoing plot. (We're now about to get episode 45, and the plot is detailed, involved, and there is DEFINITELY serious peril involved, including direct danger to regular characters and one character gaining serious and permanent injuries.)

The earlier episodes are fun to listen to if you don't want something TOO full-on, but yeah, there isn't a whooole lot to keep people invested in it until you get much further in. I started listening soon after 28 aired and was determined to listen to everything before 29, and that was enough to keep me hooked.

Cecil and Carlos' relationship is what gets a lot of people into it, yeah - I started listening because, fuck yes, canon queer relationships that aren't brushed to the side, unhealthy, or stereotypical - but the plot was what kept me listening, and a lot of other people, too.

I didn't find the podcast gripping but I seriously love their twitter.

I agree completely. But it's ok for people to like different things, so...

Oh God, I find that third eye unaccountably creepy. (It still made me laugh, though.)

Yeah. I mean, I gave it a try, but one, I've never really liked radio plays as a format, and two, the guy's voice just hits that exact tone that I have to concentrate to keep my attention on it, otherwise it fades into white noise in the background. And even without those two things, it's just... not really interesting?

I agree, OP. I just don't get the appeal.

Congratulations! You have an opinion on a thing!

I was a bit meh at first too, I think because in the first couple of episodes Cecil's voice is especially slow, but I love it now (although can't be bothered with the fandom). I listen to it while bike riding though, and I think that helps; audio media is harder for some people to get into if they try just listening to it on its own.
