Well, not money, but power / status?

I could be misremembering but I thought that was an element.

Its not something he seeks. But in the books the issue between him and Dany is portrayed not as she's underage but that he wants a woman who is way above his class. She's a queen and he's not a nobleman. He's not looking for it, but him wanting someone above his status level is presented as a problem.

He wasn't a gold digger, he was just poor as shit from a previous failed marriage where his wife used him for his money. He was just as pathetically in love with her as he is with Dany, and he bought her presents until his coffers ran dry.

When Varys (assumedly it was Varys, but that's never explicitly stated, I don't think) offered him vast amounts of coin to track down and report on Dany and her brother, it was the only way he could think of possibly winning back his wife. So yeah, Jorah is basically the biggest sad sack in all of Westeros.
