If you can access a copy, Jennifer Westwood's 'Albion' has a few anecdotes about kelpies. She's also co-authored, with Sophia Kingshill, 'The Lore of Scotland' which IIRC is a compilation of folk-tales arranged by area; very useful, anyway. And anything around that Dewey number is worth a look; you can usually tell if they're scholarly or... otherwise.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like my city's library system has either book you recommended, but it does have "Celtic Lore and Legend" by Bob Curran. Do you know if that's any good?

No worries about the lateness (minimal, I assure you!) of the reply! I haven't read that book, but I had a quick google around and it looks as though it's a good intro. Some of the books I've come across have been decidedly New Agey - for want of a better phrase. Seriously, the Celts were a bloody and turbulent people, heads being lopped off everywhere...

Oh, and the BBC Neil Oliver series "Age of Iron" is well worth a look too, just for context, if you can get hold of it.
