He played the "tortured gay son of powerful political figure" role in two different TV series (that both only got one season), Kings and Political Animals. Pretty much the only major difference was that one of those characters was out and the other was not, and in the amount of drugs they did. It's a strangely specific typecasting, but he's A++ at it.
