As someone who loves having long hair (and feels perfectly self-confident/ambitious/whatever while doing so) I also resent the common trope of women cutting their hair in fiction as a symbol for their self-enlightenment/resolve/confidence/whatever.

I guess visually it's dramatic, and some characters look cute with short hair. But at this point, the trope is borderline cliche.

You're right, OP.

I too am sick of SJW-types losing their heads every time a female character dies and calling it fridging. Sometimes, female characters die, that doesn't make it poor or lazy storytelling. That being said, fridging IS a trope worth talking about, and it is a perfectly legitimate discussion and criticism.
