About every fandom I have left is because of how the fans act (or what they produce).

IDK who the people in that picture are supposed to be, but they look nothing like the BBC versions of Holmes & Watson.

For one thing, they're kind of attractive.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a sweet picture. Sorry about your fandom experience, anon. Maybe taking a step or six back might help you regain the love

That's a sweet picture

I just went "awww!". But yeah, Sherlock fandom can be a bit batshit.

I kinda get you, come join us in the land of Mycroft/Lestrade shippers, I am pretty sure we are a tinsy bit more sane than the Sherlock/John shippers... Then again our ship hasn't exactly interacted...

Anyway what I meant to say is, yeah you are so not alone. I avoid BBC!Sherlock fandom like the plague, it isn't a nice place.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Just chiming in to say that I don't ship Sherlock/John (I like them as BFFs!!) but I loooove Mycroft/Lestrade! <3 (Still holding out for real interaction in S4!)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't read Johnlock, I like Moriarty fic. I don't care who he is paired with or if he is paired with anyone at all.

I just hate it when it's tagged a Moriarty fic and it's all about Jim the big bad rapist who exists only to get John and Sherlock together.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually the worst ships are the kind where there isn't actually any real ship tease or indications they'll end up together, and it's basically all in the shippers head. Some of the shippers realize it's not going to happen and they're happy just reading into a friendship or rivalry and interpreting in a way that they find enjoyable.

Others just insist and insist that it's REALLY THERE DON'T YOU SEE?! to anyone who enters tickling distance. They make it hard for everyone.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it's not like the BBC is going to queer them up. They have money to think of.

Exactly fucking this. It's the shippers who go around screaming about how canon their ships are, are the ones that make the shippers who have sense to get the fuck out of the fandom.

Illustrative example of shipper childishness.

I never shipped it, but fandom has made me hate Johnlock with a fiery passion.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
It'll never happen anyway. Ben C. won't want to play gay on TV after (presumably in future) gaining lots of notoriety for his high profile Turing biopic role, and Martin won't want Amanda A. to leave the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I hope they do end up together and freak all of you phobes right the fuck out.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Out of courtesy I'm going to assume you're trolling, because the alternative is assuming that you're embarrassingly stupid, and that's a rude thing to assume about someone you don't know.

I've had the same experience, anon. Especially when people on my dash point to innocuous displays of platonic friendship or even looking at each other as INDISPUTABLE PROOF that they are 100% tru luv canon and blah blah blah. I mean, ship whatever you want, but damn. There's shipping and then there's this absolutely batshit overanalysis.

I think it's partially because a lot of shippers are young women whose primary exposure to male friendship is through the kind of macho no-homo posturing that a lot of young guys do. When they see a more emotional friendship with lots of meaningful contact, they connect it with romantic relationships, because emotions + looking at each other + expressing feelings of love (even platonic) = romance. That's just my interpretation, anyway.

If the fandom is ruining the ship or the show or anything about the experience for you, perhaps you should consider distancing yourself from it.

I've enjoyed my time in the Sherlock fandom, but I only care about Sherlock/Lestrade, which might be the most unpopular Sherlock pairing. Fewer fans means less drama, and even someone like me who is completely unreasonable when it comes to Lestrade, can't imagine it ever becoming canon.

I know how you feel. I got out after the umpteenth post about how shooting someone so your husband doesn’t leave you is not only justified, but an act of love. That’s a level of delusion you usually only find in thirteen year-old girls who think having a guy stalk you is totally romantic because it means he loves you so much or in those deranged writers who keep trotting out the old ‘girl falls in love with her rapist’ crap and call it a love story.

Maybe I don’t have a good memory or wasn’t in the right parts of fandom, but I don’t remember there being so much crazy before season 3. Maybe the Destiel-will-be-canon people gave the Johnlockers some tips. Or maybe they’re the same people. Either way, I never understood why people have to have their ship be canon on the show. You always have fic and your own imagination, which a lot of times is much better than what the writers manage.

So, you might try just reading fic and/or limiting yourself to posts by people who aren’t quite so rabid about it all.

I don't get these kind of secrets really because for me it all comes back to the same thing- you're following the wrong kind of people or deliberately looking for shit to piss you off.

Honestly the amount of the rabid/delusional shippy stuff that comes up on my tumblr dash is so minimal that when I do see something that makes me side eye its so few and far between that I just roll my eyes and keep on scrolling. Like I think twice since s3 aired I've had a post come up analysing how the lighting and or set dressing = they are gay, and I honestly just laughed. I mean I ship it like no tomorrow and I think that a queer reading is most definitely valid (I say this as someone who identifies as queer) but I think looking at the lighting colours isn't some major indicator of that. Thats just reaching.

As others have said maybe take a step back from fandom or stop following whatever horrible people you're following.
