I too was pleasantly surprised by that thread on the Escapist.

Thing is, you can deal with dark themes, just like Spec Ops did. The realistic ramifications of war. But you have to treat those themes with the appropriate gravity, or the effort is just as wasted as if you'd gone the WAR = FUN BLOWING SHIT UP TIEM route. Spec Ops dealt with its subject matter well.

A game with a female sniper running around in a bikini top because the creator "thought it would make for good cosplay" is not taking the issues of sexualized violence against women during war time with the appropriate gravity. This is not an area where you can have your cake and eat it too. You don't get to titillate using sexual assault then go "but really, it's bad!" in the same way no one would take CoD seriously if it suddenly tried to make you feel terrible about all the collateral damage you're doing when you blow up the Eiffel Tower with rock music in the background.
