I usually surround myself with things that make me happy. Childhood movies and TV shows, happy songs, clips of my favorite comedians. I pretty much just try to drown out the negative thoughts will happy things. (It's basically the mental equivalent of sticking my fingers in my ears and going "LALALALA", but it tends to work for a while.)

I found in high school that sports helped, too. I did martial arts, and I generally felt better after a round of beating up on our punching bag. It didn't always make the thoughts go away, but I was too tired to do anything about them.
