I've brought this up before and people have responded by "but look at the s3 Dalek episodes! Those were written by a woman and they sucked!" RME. a) Helen Raynor isn't the only woman who can write sci-fi- find another and b) Mark Gatiss has written some truly terrible episodes and he keeps getting episodes commission so clearly quality of writing isn't the number 1 concern anyway, so....

This is what people say about Catwoman/Elektra re. a female superhero movie. Straight white guys get to produce crap all the time without writing the entire group off; everyone else has to try a lot harder (and even when they do someone will find a reason they still suck).
