I wish that Frozen Heart could've been longer and they could've just cut the troll song shorter. I'm all for more choir songs in Disney movies!

They could have just cut the troll song altogether.

Hahaha I'd actually be totally fine with that, but there are people who like it so they might not be so thrilled.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Those people are wrong and need to be saved from themselves.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't like thing and everyone who likes it is wrong because I dislike it."

Yeah, go fuck yourself, people are allowed to like things you dislike without being wrong. :| I say this as someone who doesn't like the song, either.

Wow, way to overreact to a throwaway line about people's reactions to a song. Keep it classy.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
And saying people are wrong for liking a song someone else may not like is classy. Yup. Totally. Just exudes class.

It was pretty obvious that anon was being flippant. C'mon, when was the last time you heard someone use the phrase 'those people are wrong and should be saved from themselves' seriously?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
...Pretty often, actually. Maybe I just happen to find myself in the more visceral part of fandoms by chance, but yeah, I've seen lots of people who use this kind of stuff seriously.

That is bizarre. I've never heard of anyone using that phrase seriously.

You need to find a nicer part of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
(NA)

You didn't specify fandom. People say it (or something similar) a lot in RL.

They specified fandom.

I've never heard it said seriously anywhere though. I find it weird that people actually say that phrase with a straight face.

The problem is, it has a purpose, and it belonged THERE, but unfortunately THERE was a place where a song made no sense.

What I mean is, the song established Kristoff/Anna more completely (it also fleshed out Kristoff's character pretty well), so it served a purpose. If the song had been earlier, it wouldn't have worked, since they had only just met (by Disney standards). But...Anna was dying and her kingdom is in turmoil and all sorts of shit is happening. It broke up the pace of the movie.

I don't think the song itself was bad.

Yeah this is a good point. I also think the part about 'some people make bad choices when they're mad or scared or stressed' etc is important, because you can see Anna realising that Elsa's powers going out of control is like a reaction to her stress. I dunno, it's an important song for Kristoff/Anna but also for Anna and Elsa's relationship imo!
The tone is wrong for the moment and breaks up the tension, but a part of me doesn't even care bc those harmonies are so catchy haha

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Also, another point to the song is that no one is perfect and that's okay. A very big red flag toward Hans. (It also helps that the entire scene ends with Olaf asking, "Who is this Hans?" when Hans is meant to be the mirror.)

I agree that it helped flesh Kristoff out, but I don't think being forced into marriage is a good way to establish a romance.

What I find interesting is how no one notices that without the troll's song, the movie would be wildly off-balance, packing all the songs into the first half and then adding none. Personally I would have preferred a duet of Elsa and Anna as each escape the castle, or simply Elsa singing in her prison, or in her ice palace right before she's attacked (or even during the attack!).

The trolls threw off the tone of the movie but they did help the balance a little. And I want to point out that while we the audience realized that Anna was dying, it wasn't until the end of the song that she started showing dire symptoms. Until then she was just colder and going white-haired. And Anna probably would not assume she was dying by any action taken by Elsa anyway.

Well, that's the first time I've gotten an explanation for the troll song. I see your point too! And the idea of having Elsa singing while in prison is interesting.

I still think it's a song with a shit melody, though. Maybe if they had composed it differently I would like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeh, it fit the trolls. They're rocks. They're blunt and energetic.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a "Life's too Short" reprise that originally was sung by them as Anna's dying in the locked room and Elsa is chained up in the dungeon. It and it's parent got cut when they rewrote Elsa's role in the story.
