What I find interesting is how no one notices that without the troll's song, the movie would be wildly off-balance, packing all the songs into the first half and then adding none. Personally I would have preferred a duet of Elsa and Anna as each escape the castle, or simply Elsa singing in her prison, or in her ice palace right before she's attacked (or even during the attack!).

The trolls threw off the tone of the movie but they did help the balance a little. And I want to point out that while we the audience realized that Anna was dying, it wasn't until the end of the song that she started showing dire symptoms. Until then she was just colder and going white-haired. And Anna probably would not assume she was dying by any action taken by Elsa anyway.

Well, that's the first time I've gotten an explanation for the troll song. I see your point too! And the idea of having Elsa singing while in prison is interesting.

I still think it's a song with a shit melody, though. Maybe if they had composed it differently I would like it.

Eeeh, it fit the trolls. They're rocks. They're blunt and energetic.

There's a "Life's too Short" reprise that originally was sung by them as Anna's dying in the locked room and Elsa is chained up in the dungeon. It and it's parent got cut when they rewrote Elsa's role in the story.
