Both can be true. She's not only on the show for eyecandy, she is as much an active team member as all the others. However, she is also an attractive woman and willing to play it up on occasion. *shrug* It doesn't do anything for me, but I don't think it should be allowed to detract from all the other work she does.

I forget which episode I was watching but... yeah. It was something during Shark Week (I don't normally watch much Mythbusters) and my jaw dropped at how unsubtle the camera work was. VERY conspicuous shots of her ass as she walked away, for no apparent reason. It was kind of depressing, tbh.

She is there partially for eye candy, yes.

She is not there only for eye candy.

I think the fact that they do often use her for eye candy can and should be criticized, but I think it's kind of unreasonable to discount all of the other things she does on the show because of it.

Like... paint things?

I don't know. I do think she's the most expendable member of the cast, but that might be colored by a talk I went to with her. Let's just say that no one likes Kari more than Kari likes Kari.

DA

On a show about science, it makes sense that the artist is the most expendable member of the cast. She makes up for the deficit with tight tops, cleavage, and fanservicey shots of her sucking off balloons. That doesn't reflect well on Mythbusters, but given their large male audience who's in it for explosions and lulz, it's not exactly surprising this is the route they'd choose.

I thought someone in the previous discussion said she was a kickass mathematician and the main tactical planner in their bits, though? She helped do most of the set-up stuff that wouldn't necessarily be interesting to film, but was necessary for the experiment?

She's eye-candy, but she's not just eye-candy. That's always been my opinion, but it was really brought home when I saw some eps that were filmed while she was on maternity leave. Her stand-in was positively vapid in comparison -- she didn't contribute much, and she was always asking the boys to explain things.

She's an artist, not a robotics expert or whatever, so she has a different toolset than Grant or Tory. But she was working at Jamie's M5 special effects company before MythBusters stared. In the really early episodes you can occasionally see her in the background but she's not a main cast member and only rarely shows up. Same with Tory, who also worked there but didn't become a full cast member until later.

Is she really hot, and does the show play up her hotness? Yes. Pretty sure it's all with her consent. She did a photo spread for some magazine a while back (Maxim?) that was fairly racy (no naked bits, but lots of cleavage etc.). I'm fine with her being both hot and awesome, and since she doesn't mind the bits of fanservice I'm fine with that too. If she were bothered by it it'd be another story.
