I'm not sure I understand, OP. If your friend is charging $25 for a commission, then clearly this is an amount he feels would be helpful given his circumstances. Why do you think it wouldn't be helpful? Also FYI, 14 GBP isn't a fortune but it's not nothing, either. It can certainly buy you lunch if you shop smart.

The prices aren't set in stone (at least not yet). More of a "name your price" thing, and since I want to be helpful, and this guy's a friend, I want to be generous about it...except what I usually give when I'm being generous is not nearly as good in this case, and since there are limitations on my own spending, it would probably be a bad idea* for me to start saying "well, I can spend more this time, because..." even if the "because" is "exchange rates fuck everyone over".

*I'm shockingly prone to sliding down anything that even remotely resembles a slope and is in the least bit slippery.

I see. Well, it's up to him, really. He can turn down your commission if he feels the money isn't worth the time and effort, but if he's hard up then $25 USD is a hell of a lot better than nothing. I wouldn't sweat it, OP. I'm sure it means a lot that you're offering your support even though it's not like you're rolling in money, either.

I'm sure he won't turn it down, and I know it does help. I just wish I could help him as much as I can help others. I know I shouldn't be making other people's lives my problem, but I want everyone to be able to live well, and I still hate that I can't make that happen.
