Beta readers/editors?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
After a long time writing nothing, I've finally started writing fanfic again.

But I don't know how you find beta readers and editors. I never had one before, when I used to write. I don't know where to look, or what to look for, or what the process is like, or what makes a good beta/editor.
Also, what about small fandoms or rare pairs or crack pairings? I assume you'd be able to find a beta easily for larger fandoms.

Help?

Which fandom are you looking for, anon?

Fanfiction.net actually have a list of beta readers by fandom. You can contact potential beta readers through the site.

I was pleasantly surprised to find two beta readers for my incredibly small and rare fandom - both of whom answered my PM!

I hope this helps, anon.

Ah, thank you for that! The fic I'm writing at the moment is for Hannibal, but I will eventually write fics for other fandoms too.

What fandom site do you intend to post fic to? (Some sites have systems in place to help find betas.)

I was going to post to Ao3, maybe crosspost to DW and FF. I don't know of any other sites.

Another possibility is to ask for a beta on an LJ or DW comm related to the fandom, or in one for the "smaller fandom" challenges (like rarepair). (It depends on whether you want general story feedback or canon-picking.)
