Bands you love the sound of but hate the lyrics

I don't have a whole band, but that Kings of Leon song "Sex on Fire" is SUCH a great song, except for the stupid lyrics.

Ooh, also Soundgarden's "Spoonman."

So true about that Kings of Leon song.

I always think that song sounds like it's about some very uncomfortable sort of genital disease.

Led Zeppelin. Their music is so good, and yet their lyrics can be pretty misogynistic. DX

Have you ever listened to symphonic Led Zepplin? It's actually a pretty popular thing, and I killed a few hours a couple weeks ago going through a number of YouTube videos of various string renditions of their songs.

I heard Andrew Jackson Jihad's Christmas Island today. Good sound, but 11 and a half of the 12 songs tried so hard they just fell into pretentious crap.

Radiohead. All right, mostly it's Karma Police. That song is all kinds of stupid.

Sure, but you can barely understand Radiohead lyrics anyway. It's like unintelligible moaning to the beat with the rare word thrown in. I like it, by the way. That's not hating.

Not bands, but specific songs. One recently was "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie. The music and vocals were pretty and catchy, but I just could not get past the creepy ass lyrics so I took it off my playlist. And I tend to be pretty tolerant of lyrics that are less-than-perfect if the music is good, but that song...I just couldn't.

Bruno Mars songs.

Catchy sounds but irritating lyrics.

Bruno Mars songs are so easy to listen too.

Five Finger Death Punch - I love the sound of their music, but the lyrics remind me of the 2003-2006 hard/alt rock scene with hamfisted "edgy" lyrics ("Under and Over It" is hilarious lyrics-wise for all the wrong reasons) that sounds like something you'd listen to in high school if you were going through a stereotypical rebellious '2edgy5me' stage. Not surprisingly, their cover songs (Bad Company, Mama Said Knock You Out, and House of the Rising Sun) are some of their strongest points, probably because they're singing words that other people have penned.

Linkin Park - I think LP started to sound better around the time they got involved with the Transformer flicks (and I genuinely like their recent output), but let's be real: everything before that lyric-wise is just laughable. Funny this topic came up: On my way in to work this morning, I heard 'Crawling' for the first time in a long while, and I cringed at how awful the lyrics were, but I still liked the sound of it regardless.

Echoing an anon above me with Bruno Mars. And without going into too much detail, I'll just add Papa Roach, Lady Gaga (not a band, but you know), and Nine Inch Nails.

Nickelback.

The Backstreet Boys, God help me. Cute, catchy tunes with pleasant vocals and the most horrible, sloppily-written, nonsensical and lame lyrics I've ever heard in my life.

The Cranberries forever. The worst lyricist in the world with the most awesome singing voice. It's so bad it comes right back around to being beautiful. Sometimes. Usually not.

It's not so much that I hate their lyrics, because the fact that all the songs I've read translations of are so weird is kinda cool, but I am really glad I don't understand German when I listen to Rammstein.
