It's good, but it isn't like Sherlock. Let me put it this way... it depends on what you like about Sherlock. Do you like the mysteries, or do you like the two cute guys being life-partners with lots of lulzy snark and the occasional conundrum slickly presented with near-magical powers of deduction? (Note: I'm not being snippy about Sherlock here, I enjoy both series.)

Wallender is a middle-aged dude who eats and drinks too much and is fighting diabetes and old age while still kicking ass and solving crimes with compassion. The humor is low key and dry. You thought British humor was dry? Try Scandinavian humor. The stories are more weighted toward the case, not a soap opera about Wallender's love life-- though elements of his family life certainly enter into it, namely his slightly rocky relationship with his daughter.

Both the Swedish series and the British series are good in their own way. The British series is a little more polished and has the benefit of being in English. Both are grittier and bleaker than Sherlock and more focused on procedural details than one guy pulling amazing deductions from his butt. They're also quite interesting in that Swedish culture, landscape and customs are ever so slightly foreign to me, which adds another layer of interest, IMO.

So yeah, give it a try if that sounds good to you, just keep in mind the shows are apples vs. oranges.
