hahaha yep. that face is basically correct.

I was really into pretty language, ok, and that opening line is so perf, and Humbert's mean observations were so interesting and I was hooked on the voice a long time before I fully caught onto what was happening. then it was too late. by then the D: was already a part of me.

I read it again about five years later and reading it again actually dispelled a lot of the uglier residues because I was better able to separate author / narrator / reader and better able to appreciate the book's, as distinct from Humbert's, portrayal of Lo. it's a great, great book. but it is not a great book for twelve year olds.
