It has been awhile since that incident but LJ has basically said fuck you to anybody who doesn't like their new style... although, they have yet to release the "new" friends page, which they were saying they were going to do more than a year ago now, so maybe they're learning?
I was very glad when F!S moved, and part of it was due to the site change issue, along with... another site change issue that happened later, that I can't recall, that case basically just said, enough of this shit.

I was afraid that F!S would die down, but I'm glad it didn't mostly. I think it had something to do with the new comment page? That change did go into effect. I actually like some of the new things (like being able to easily add in html into comments), but some of the stuff didn't work well for F!S (like the no subject line).
Maybe they are learning. One can hope.

I know folks complain about there not being as many secrets, but I actually like where it is now. It's much easier to keep up with, and we don't show up on sf_d nearly as often (...which is how I actually found out about the community in the first place... I think something from that chixb4dix person, or whatever her name was).
I thought there were General Comments back on LJ too? Maybe just before the move? I really love it, as much if perhaps not more than the secrets, because it's nice to just chat with folks. And people seem to be nicer here on DW than back on LJ; I at least noticed a huge shift in the tone of the community, and I really love it.
And yes, we can hope.

I like the fewer secrets too. Although I don't like the whole "people who feel strongly about social justice issues are social justice warriors who don't actually really care" stuff that has a lot of tone-argument parts to it. There at least seemed to be a more even split on LJ, but it seems like some of the stronger social justice people left.

I'm not so fond of that either, caring a lot about social justice issues, but I find that when I post about issues, people tend to agree. It seems to be the extremists that people are upset about (and I can understand there; I have seem some stuff that has made me go o.O like the whole black Mozart thing that people were actually bullying people for not believing, on Tumblr, or the Tumblr poster who insisted Jasmine was a transgender princess and told people who said they liked her headcanon but that her claim that Disney intended her to be trans and we all needed to recognize her as such and anyone who didn't was transphobic -- and I must say, I am one of the people who saw that post and thought it was an AWESOME headcanon -- I'm talking about those types, not people who are genuinely passionate, which I count myself part of).
What annoys me is that it has become a thing to complain about SJWs and some people throw the baby out with the bathwater. Not all people who care about social issues are like that. Sigh.
Some of the more extreme people on LJ, I can't say I miss. There were some who were really awesome, and I miss them, but man, there were some that were just... out there, and I honestly wonder if they were trolling.

I'm procrastinating on writing a paper that is due at 5 about a topic I don't really care about.
Yes, the extremists are annoying (though I'd argue that the extremists on the other side are worse), but the community has decided that everyone who is passionate is an extremist and that the extremists represent a majority. Which is frustrating. And there are the people who don't want social justice to get in the way of their enjoyment of something and use the SJW label to try to silence people who want to talk about the problems in something (I don't get what's so hard to understand about the idea of "I like this in spite of _________")

Uh, a whole lot. I get obsessive about a lot of things. MCU, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Tolkien stuff, Buffy, How I Met Your Mother, Grey's Anatomy (mostly just Callie/Arizona side of the fandom), Babylon 5, Stargate, Once Upon a Time, and Legend of the Seeker (mostly landcom though).
Also Harry Potter and Supernatural, but the Potter fandom has died out so I mostly read fics and I've only season season 1-6 and like seasons 1-5 of SPN so I'm not really in the fandom too much anymore.
I'd be into the Firefly fandom if I knew where to find it.
