So do I, tbqh. But I was a kid for the first, and an adult for the second, and I'm sure that's colored my perceptions.

Debbie and Eliza were never...cold to each other?

IDK, but I don't think it's fair to compare them.

Although I did love TWT.

Cold to each other, hah.

I loved the Wild Thornberrys so much as a kid. ;_; I used to daydream and pretend being able to talk to animals.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to hate on Eliza for that reason. I was that kid (glasses, smart, "nerdy"), why couldn't I talk to animals? I was undoubtedly sippin' on that haterade. Also, the animation was not the kind I liked.

but she's not a princess so it's not important or relevant!!!! little kids would NEVER want to be or identify with someone who isn't a princess!!!

That was actually on TV a few days ago....I should have looked at it, but I don't remember Debbie and Eliza having minimal involvement with each other's life.

Yeah it seems like a good portion of the episodes involved them getting past their differences and working together. They both knew that they cared about each other under all the annoyance.

Yeah but the art in the Thornberry thing sucks hairy goat balls.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
This. It was a show about animals where the art was so bad that there was an episode where someone passed off a racehorse with fake antlers as a reindeer and nobody noticed until Eliza realized it had single-toed hooves.

Maybe that doesn't mean the art was bad. Maybe it just means everyone in-universe was really dumb. :P

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was both, because, compare the two posters. One is significantly more crap than the other, and the uncrap one is not the Thornberry one. The best you can say about Thornberry is that when they had to cut costs on animation, nobody noticed when it went off-model.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure they have the very basics in common, but I don't really think they're all that comparable. The Wild Thornberrys had several tv seasons to get introduced to the characters and learn how their relationship worked before the movie came. Eliza lived with her powers for years thinking they were something special, where Elsa was taught to fear them.

Oh my god that movie was my shit. I never watched the show, but for some reason I was crazy about the movie. The funny thing is that I only saw it maybe twice? But I had this whole phase where I pretended to be Eliza because talking to animals was the coolest power ever. Man, good times. I wonder if it's on Netflix.

You like a thing better than another thing? That's cool. I like things too. However, there is something extremely unsettling about the way that elephant is drawn.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
probably that it has forward facing eyes

This is hands-down my favourite comment of tonight's post.

....In what way are these movies even thematically similar? Sisters with powers is not enough to make this a logical comparison.
