I mean, I agree with the general sentiment, but it's really difficult to say how soon is "too soon" to make movies about things. Because there will always be movies about/based on historical events. You could also say that using the Titanic tragedy as the setting for a cheezy romance flick was in poor taste.

I saw Titanic in the theater back when they did the 3D-enhanced re-release. And I'm inclined to agree. Even then, I found the movie just doesn't hold up anymore (and I had an even harder time buying into Rose and Jack finding ~true love~ only a day or so after meeting). idek, maybe I'm just a stonehearted grump. At least I went to the 'dinner and a movie' theater and got bombed out of my skull with hard liquor. =T

But yeah, adding a schmaltzy romance to a tragedy didn't sit well with me after that, and I've mentally put it away into my 'Movies I probably won't watch again any time soon' file.

Exactly. What got to me the most about that movie were those scenes during the sinking - the mother putting her children to bed, the old couple laying down to die together - all inspired by the real people on the ship. I found myself very impatient with Rose and Jack's story, wanting to know about just about everyone except them.

At least Titanic doesn't somehow suggest that two people being in love made the tragedy less awful. You still see terrible things happen and people dying.
