Much as I loved this film as a kid... now that I'm an adult, yeah. I agree.

It's really fucking bizarre that they decided to make a ~magical princess~ film out of real life events that had happened not too long ago.

Now whenever I think of this film, it reminds me of the Nostalgia Critic's review of the animated Titanic movies...

In the grand scheme of things no. I mean it's just a couple of generations back, enough for families to remember and still be affected.

Humans have been around for 200,000 years.

IDK. 1900 means they'd be 114 now. As a rule, most people don't live that long.
