I hate fanon interpretation of Castiel. He is not some swooning woobie, argh argh argh. Please stop describing him as delicate. Or blushing. AGH.

This so much. He doesn't understand human culture. He hides his badass side a lot of the time. But he's still freaking badass.

I could picture him blushing, actually, but not in a giggly swoon-y way. More like a little bit of pink creeping up over his collar while he clams up and tries to look stoic but just comes off as uncomfortable and out of his element. Cute, but not cutesy. There's a difference!

Replace this with some characterizations of the Tenth Doctor and/or Ianto Jones and you have my problem with some Doctor Who/Torchwood fic.

Fanon!Ianto is dreadful. I've hardly ever come across any fics that convey that Ianto:
-worked at Torchwood One (and as a low-level researcher; not as coffee boy)
-smuggled Lisa into Torchwood Three and managed to keep her secretly there for almost a year (so he's a really good liar)
-while also doing a lot of research and repair on Lisa's Cyber tech (impressive given his lack of medical and engineering training)
-he eventually became a competent field agent
-he actually has some serious anger issues (in "Adam", "Countrycide", and "Meat"); I've always felt this was sort of to parallel Owen's, which were more overt, whereas Ianto represses his "dark" impulses more.
-and given Gwen and Rhiannon's conversation in COE, he probably continued to lie to the team about his background (or to his sister; or more likely both).

Canon Ianto is a smart, secretive, and dangerous man who boldly risks his life for the people he loves but doesn't like to show affection publicly. But fanon Ianto is all about moping, fetching tea, and make-outs with Jack. Just the worst.

I don't even know if Jack realized Ianto had a sister, which shows just how sneaking and smart Ianto was.

Yeah, the guy who tasered a man in the fucking forehead is not going to be some weeping, paralyzed by fear woobie. Not that he's not prone to breaking down on occassion, but he's not some weepy damsel in distress who constantly needs everybody else to save him.
