Thor's not an idiot, and Steve's not your bigoted grandpa pining for the hearty simple good old days. Itachi's not a delicate tortured woobie...nobody is a delicate tortured woobie. I'm trying to think of one character who has ever fit that definition and coming up blank. It is an abomination.

Seriously, delicate tortured woobie is pretty much synonymous with "this is bad characterization!"

Yeah, it's the first sign I need to backspace out of a fic like yesterday.

To be fair, the Naruto canon did basically portray Itachi as a delicate tortured woobie.

He was shown to wander through fields angsting about the horrors of war that traumatized him, his reasons for slaughtering his family were for the greater peace and good of the village and he cried while doing it as his father said he "really was very gentle", and he spared Sasuke because he loved him too much. Then he heroically stopped the mind-control part of the reanimation jutsu to help everyone before giving a declaration that he'd love Sasuke no matter what before his clay body crumbled.

All of that is true, but what I'm talking about is the slender pale waif who weeps softly into his pallet while passively bottoming by somebody bruising his porcelain flesh. Heroic idealizing is one thing, but fragile helplessness is new extreme entirely. Though admittedly I find them both irritating, just the woobifying even more so. At the very least Itachi has remained a powerhouse who makes other powerhouses pee their pants, even if he's now a holy saint while doing it.

Actually, that reminds me, this can be applied to Sasuke, too. He is not Naruto's frail, needy little uke. Aarrgh.

Oh, I thought you meant the sort of woobification where an evil or normally aggressively strong character is just misunderstood and tragic on the inside. Yeah, no way does "slender pail waif who weeps softly into his pallet while passively bottoming by somebody bruising his porcelain flesh" relate to Itachi.
