The thing that I don't understand about Fifty Shades isn't about rape fantasy. Rather, I mean, I know what rape fantasy is. Rape fantasy can be hot. But usually in rape fantasy, the person being raped doesn't then spend several paragraphs feeling depressed and nauseated and self-loathing because they've been hurt. I mean, I don't doubt that there are some people who get off on more realistic rape fantasies, and more power to them! I just didn't think that the majority of people with rape fantasies enjoyed thinking about how much actual rape and abuse sucks.

It's like, the rape scenes in 50 Shades don't read as sexy/kinky rape scenes to me, they read like someone really trying to make their audience understand how bad abuse is and how screwed up your thinking gets in an abusive relationship. It's not that I don't think NOBODY SHOULD FIND THAT SEXY HOMG, it's just that I'm baffled at how many people DO find that sexy. Like, is that really the popular sex fantasy of the age? Have I been misreading most of America this whole time? There are loads of people buying these books and "Weep because Christian Grey isn't real" t-shirts and ugly ties and tie-in games, surely not all of them have the kink of being in a (really well detailed!) abusive relationship?
