I was going to type, "Oh, this is going to be a good thread" but I thought about it for more than five seconds and I have to say, "Fuck you. No, the world will not quit making Nazis bad guys. Too bad facts about your country's history makes you feel uncomfortable."

No popcorn is needed for this thread.

No, the world will not quit making Nazis bad guys.

The world won't quit making Nazis, period. Golden Dawn, National Party (France), Hungary's current government (don't know the party name), Svoboda/Right Sector, Tea Party (You think they're not neo-Nazis? What are you smoking?), Canadian Reform Alliance Party (currently masquerading as Tories with a majority government, with which they are summarily destroying Canadian's rights and freedoms.), the list goes on.

Just like the rise of fascism in the 1930s, no one will read the writing on the wall. Until it's far too late.

I think OP's point - and a fair one - is that most, if not all countries have skeletons in their closet. Who is to say that the Holocaust dwarfs all other horrors just because it is the most famous. The United States' genocide of Native Americans was pretty atrocious, and lots of its recent and current military involvement - secret torture, lies, and so on. So why shouldn't Americans be made to feel uncomfortable about their country's history at times?

(Granted, I think there are plenty of occasions where Americans are the bad guys, but yeah.)

It's all well and good to be for making Americans feel uncomfortable about their country's history, but OP seems to not like feeling uncomfortable about their own country's history, which is a problem.

Hi, I'm German (not the OP though, nor can I co-sign on the secret).

We covered Nazi Germany in history class starting in primary school (year 3, that would put me still in the single digits, age-wise) and continuing up until year 13. There are documentaries about Nazi Germany on TV every week, every young German visits at least one KZ with school, two or three if they have enough nearby.

Trust me, Germans love feeling uncomfortable about their history, it's our national ego-stroking past time how fucking uncomfortable we are with Nazi Germany. Seriously, that's our version of patriotism.

I don't like Nazi-based entertainment either. Not because it makes me feel bad for being German (it doesn't, modern Germany is a big enough dick as a common creature to give me plenty of feeling bad about my country on its own), but because I don't like the idea of such a serious and grave thing being used lightly (and 9 out of 10 badly) in entertainment/revenge fantasies that won't help the people who were, and in parts still are, actually affected.

Where did you go to school that you had history class in primary school? (honest curiosity here)

NRW and Lower Saxony.
