I agree. I don't think it was all that well hidden, to be honest. Just the fact that he was put off by her 'sandwiches' comment in the song was enough to make it obvious, let alone that he was such a follower in the whole song part. It was a very 'trying too hard' vibe, which really doesn't have any other reason to exist in an animated movie. Live action, sure, some actors just have terrible chemistry together, but not animated. That was done deliberately.

Then again, it is targeted to little kids, so I approve of that having spoiler warnings for them. I just don't think it deserves the adult surprise it's generating.
