Nobody criticizes Israel and they forget Japan?

That's a swell rock you're living under, schnitzelface.

Now if you excuse me, ongoing to go reinstall wolfenstein and see if there's still multiplayer.

In Germany criticizing Israel is only acceptable in some pretty peculiar groups - university students and neo-nazis come to mind. It's deemed politically incorrect by "the establishment".

Possibly because Germany's actions necessitated the creation of the State of Israel. No Holocaust, no Israel. The problems in the Middle East today can be traced back to Germany's historical actions.

Zionism, the Balfour Declaration, the concept of the state of Israel came before the Holocaust and indeed before Hitler came to power, so I'm not sure it would never have happened without the Holocaust. Probably there is not so much international support without the Holocaust, though, and probably it does play a factor in German political discourse.

Oh please. Jewish activist groups were wanting to invade Palestine and set up a Jewish homeland in the middle of a pre-existing population long before the NAZIS. If the Germans were responsible for the formation of Israel as a response, then Israel would be in the Rhone Valley and it would be Germans forced out of their homes and orchards seized to make way for it.

then Israel would be in the Rhone Valley

Gosh. That would be interesting to say the least...

(Don't mind me, I like to indulge myself in a little bit of historical 'what if' every now and then.)

That should of course have been the Rhine, not the Rhone. Why do keyboards have those two so very common letters so close together leading me to surrender the wrong river. Oh well, in this AU Germany successfully annexed the Rhone before losing it in compensation to Jews sensible and non-megalomaniacal enough to realise their de facto invasion of Palestine would not end well.

Yeah, I got that. Part of me was actually wondering if maybe somewhere in the world it was called the Rhone. LOL

There is however a Rhône valley in France.

Re: Nobody criticizes Israel and they forget Japan?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That is probably what I was thinking of.

Because the Jews would've just accepted any piece of land in the world and have no historical connection to Israel, like, AT ALL, amiright?

Re: Nobody criticizes Israel and they forget Japan?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well historically they'd stolen it once and claimed a Big Beard in the sky told them too (and to rape the shit out of any women left in it and marry then), so stealing it the second time was probably easier.

That's just migration of the peoples stuff, you can't get salty over that unless you want to throw the Germans out of Germany or whatever.

It's a different question in principle when you have relatively coherent national entities with a developed concept of international law and political morality.

Re: Nobody criticizes Israel and they forget Japan?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, tbf, Zionism never really followed that logic (of taking land from those who had most wronged them )- otherwise the Jewish homeland would have been somewhere in the eastern part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire or somewhere in France, being that the origin of Zionism came from anti-Semitism in Austria and the Dreyfus Affair.

Zionism was always a pretty weird movement tbqh

Doesn't that mean we're complicit in the actions of Israel and should be especially mindful of them? But either way, the current generation of young people really can't be held responsible for nazi crimes - trying to "seize" that guilt as a nation is not only disrespectful, it blinds us to our current problems.
