As a Jew, I'm sorry that Germany today is still being vilified for the actions of a generation that has almost disappeared. I also respect your country's acknowledgment of wrongdoing and actual attempts to right some wrongs. It's a hell of a lot more than many guilty parties have done.

I am however terrified of the day we "move on" from WW2. Because that's when everyone forgets. And that's when it starts again. Maybe to the Jews, maybe to Muslims, maybe to Armenians or Canadians or anyone else that's easy to use as a scapegoat.

You say it's already been 70 years? To me, it hasn't even been 100 years and already there are kids in school who don't know what the Holocaust was. Europe is covered in swastika graffiti left by people who don't even realize how horrible that is. People like me are almost alone in the world because you don't bounce back from genocide. By my calculations, I should have about 1000 relatively-close blood relations in the world. I have three outside my immediate family, 2 of whom I've never met. The war is still echoing.

Dude, you do need to let it go. I realize it still hurts, but the golden rule of recovering from any injury is that onlookers run out of sympathy faster than you run out of pain. Its why Israel has such a bad rep right now, squealing "but Germany was mean to us" is no longer convincing anyone even if there is still a national PTSD in Israel and the Illegally Occupied Territories. Having your plan for a nuclear war be "nuke every fucker in the world even if they are non-combatant because they should have tried harder" doesn't help either, even if it makes you more secure.

Jews, we get it hurts, now stop whining and join us in the 21stC. Your religion does not qualify for special treatment any longer. It is just counter-productive now, That's reason for most of the Swastikas that they piss off Israel rather than any connection to Hitler.

Is this a real comment? Nobody is calling for special treatment for Jews. People ARE calling for a reminder not to forget the Holocaust, because ayrt is absolutely right - the moment we forget history, we are doomed to repeat it, and as they pointed out, it's as likely to be some other scapegoat-able minority as it is the Jews.

Acknowledgement isn't special treatment, and Israel's actions don't justify anti-Semitism, or the use of imagery associated with genocide. It's unconscionable to suggest otherwise.

Every family member who was still in Poland when Germany invaded was murdered because of their religion. Who gives a shit how long ago it was? Our families and loved ones were killed in cold blood. And I hope you do realize that the point of OP's comment was that the Germans are no different from the Americans or the Australians or any other group of human beings on this earth.

It is entirely possible for the atrocities of WWII to happen again, between different groups of people. That's why it needs to be remembered - because ALL people are capable of such actions, given the right conditions.

You think you live in the 21st Century and that means it's all progress from here onwards? The technology may have moved on, but people are people.

Do you mean like kindergarteners? Because otherwise that is a flat out lie. Everyone knows about the Holocaust. As the OP is pointing out they'd have to have never turned on a tv or watched a movie in their lives to not know about it.

And apparently talking about all the other genocides that have happened since the Holocaust isn't important at all to you. Their deaths don't matter to you, because we can't stop talking about the Holocaust and acknowledge that is has already happened again.

He didn't say we need to stop teaching about this at school. He said that we need to move on in our media and talk about all these other real people who's deaths were equally as tragic and we all act that they never happened. Apparently those deaths don't matter, to you.
