From a writer standpoint I sorta get the whole "ENOUGH Nazi villains" like there are a LOT of villains based on Nazi's. Unless people are planning on doing something unique with it, they should probably use some OTHER inspiration. There plenty of other baddies in this world to base villains after. But Nazis have kind of been done to death, IMO.

Hell, one of my big antagonists in my work is somewhat inspired by Fred Phelps.

I'm really curious now about this antagonist. Phelps wasn't as "villainous" as the Nazis and others because there was no genocide or violence...but he was undoubtedly an evil influence.

Yeah, Nazis are just so damn theatrical in everything. From the uniforms all the way to the real-life steampunk weapons. No one else ever came close to them in terms of grandiose manners or wacky visual impact. If you are doing anything with a visual impact, Nazis win the race for a striking bad buy.

Oh well, he's for a fictional society Psi which are a lot like mutants from X men,except different rules. His name is Rexford Hamilton Stryke and he's a politician from an old money family who covets leadership. He is a huge stickler for "traditions" of his society's culture even the "traditional values" that are actually REALLY shitty like the horrible treatment that empaths and telepaths get, because Psi society believes they are "mutations" of "proper powers" and empaths and telepaths need to be "corrected".

He is the leader of a cultish church that preaches that Psi are the descendants of angels and therefore more "pure" than mundanes, which he uses to justify bigotry toward mundane people and the idea that Psi need to 'purify' their lines by 'cutting out the diseased branches (empaths and telepaths). As a father he's horribly controlling and oppressive to his wife and children, using his power of technopathy to block things on the internet that disagree with his views. He shows favoritism towards his daughter and is pretty horrible to his son (possibly the product of his own cheating) and trying to force his son to believe in his opinions.

There is a lot of bigotry in his character and some things he might have in common with some Nazi views, but he's chiefly based after the persona of a bigoted man who uses religion to hide behind. He's also a horrible influence on his family, convincing many of the other parents in the family to follow his example in teaching their children. Through his bullying methods he's gotten more power than the actual "Head of Household" in his family.

Your world sounds really interesting! And I like your setup of him as a villain. He's very fleshed-out.

Definitely can see the Phelps inspiration there.

I started creating him when I decided I wanted the two main rival families in the work to be more 'equal' and less 'good family vs bad family'. I needed someone nice and sinister to be able to equal up to what I had with Kagami of the Toyaka family. Both are corrupt in their own ways. The Strykes are headded by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats while the Toyakas are an organized crime /mafia-esque family.

There are a depressingly large number of people out there who are very serious about "get over the Holocaust" because they're "tired of the Jews playing the victim" about it. It's disgusting but it happens.

They were specifically talking about media not history class.

Yes it is high time we talked about other villain in our media. There are too many people who think the worst thing to happen in our history was the Holocaust and way more that believe nothing that bad has happened since, because no one talks about anything that happened after the Holocaust.

There are actually many people that believe that was the last genocide to happen and that if we move on to other things people will forget about the last genocide and repeat it! They think there haven't been any since!
