Re: Book Club
(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:42 am (UTC)(link)- can J.K Rowling get over her stuffy middle-classness to write authentic lower class folks?
- EXPERIENCE J.K dabbling outside of heteronormativity!
- HATE OR LOVE or hatelove the ending! The most rage-worthy deaths are yet to come!
- SORT all the characters into HP houses!
- GET TO KNOW fascinating characters like Pseudo Harry, Pseudo Venon, Pseudo Sirius, Pseudo Severus and Pseudo Lily. Except they're totally different people after all! But Pseudo Snape and Pseudo Sirius are friends! And there's also Krystal Weedon.
It's a pretty swift read, even though it's rather long.

Re: Book Club
From Booklist:
When Aristotle and Dante meet, in the summer of 1987, they are 15-year-olds existing in “the universe between boys and men.” The two are opposites in most ways: Dante is sure of his place in the world, while Ari feels he may never know who he is or what he wants. But both are thoughtful about their feelings and interactions with others, and this title is primarily focused on the back-and-forth in their relationship over the course of a year. Family issues take center stage, as well as issues of Mexican identity, but the heart of the novel is Dante’s openness about his homosexuality and Ari’s suppression of his.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 04:28 am (UTC)(link)It's about a 20 something guy who applies for a job at a craft store, thinking he's gonna meet girls...turns out he meets a guy instead.
It's a great coming of age/figuring out who you are story as well as a really adorable love story, pretty much all the characters are likable, and there's a lot of humor. Plus it's very fanfic-y, but in a good way. I spent a large portion of the book trying to figure out which fandom it must've been about before the author filed the serial numbers off (and I'm still not sure that didn't happen) because the dynamic between the main dudes could've fit any one of several popular slash pairings.
It's a really quick read if you want it to be (although I actually took forever to read it because I adored the characters and didn't want it to end) and anyone that's a fan of m/m stuff should totally check it out.
