When I was a teenager, my mom used to volunteer me to help the neighbors or family. Never asked. Just, "Oh, the Regos are going out tonight. I said you would watch Vanessa." When I used to protest she would, "Well, then you go tell them why you can't help them out. Why are you being so selfish." And in the end, I always gave in and did the work.

dude, I would have gone to them and been like "hey, my mom volunteered me for this but I have an obligation. If you need to contact me directly for next time, here's my cell #." well at least I think I would have done that, but my mom never did that to me. It sounds super obnoxious. :|

Wow, that was shitty of her, I'm sorry. My mom would pull that kind of thing too, not with babysitting duties but with other stuff-- make commitments or decisions for me without consulting me, than getting all offended when I didn't want to do it.

Sorry she put you through that OP. Parents are weird sometimes. Hopefully it was limited to that, and she isn't still making you take responsibility/volunteering you for something that clearly isn't your responsibility.
