I have to ask though- how much does contemporary medie demonizes modern day Germans and modern day Germany? I'm trying to remember one that seriously did and drew out blanks. Is it just me? Is it really a widespread phenomenon that I didn't notice?

Most Nazis in media are depicted, as far as I know, in media either set in WWII, or that they're depicted as relics from that time (like that Nazis on the Moon movie… though more seriously, I guess). And most contemporary Nazi-like organizations in modern media are not even populated by Germans (like HYDRA), just inspired by the Nazi party.

Am I missing something?

It was popular up until the Millennium, although mostly they qualified by saying it was commie-germans from the Eastern part. Then 9/11 happened and the goto bad guy was an Arab of some sort, or French because they wouldn't join in the bloodbath in Iraq properly, so it is a dying meme right now.
