I watched the movie already knowing he'd turn out to be the real villain, but I thought all hints of him wanting to take over were well-hidden. Even watching it last night, I still think that, even if I can now see all those details people point out as being BIG HONKING CLUES.

I merely think that for adult minds used to Disney's usual track record of holding up Love At First Sight, the BIG HONKING CLUES are not really as big as people claim they are.

And on a whole, I actually do like that he's not so obvious and doesn't have some hit-you-in-the-face evil laugh scene to clue us in. I like that for once a villain is not obvious, because Real Life does not have people being obvious about their intentions.
